First off, thanks to my old friend, Stonee, for his comments concerning CBA. If you, haven't read them you should, they're good. Secondly, sorry about the long delay in between posts. It's been busy lately and this is a hobby.
Lots of concern and hand wringing in the news this week over Iran's President Ahmadminejad's appearance at Columbia University. Here in the "Land of Liberty" we have citizens actually bitching about some guy speaking at a university. Before anyone loads a rifle and hunts me down, hear me out. I hate this guy as much as any Republican pointing a finger at any Democrat and lecturing on state sponsored terrorism. I don't think that is the point, not for one moment. We are a also a nation that believes in the freedom to express our own ideas. No matter how twisted, we've allowed the KKK to march down Main Street American too many times to count.
Recently we saw a young man, Andrew Meyer, tasered at The University of Florida. This guy is being brought under control by five police officers, with two more on the way. You can argue that he deserved it, or you can argue that he didn't. I've heard that he was too dramatic, that he set it up and that he is known for this type of grandstanding. How many of those police officers knew that? My guess is none. I don't think any of them knew anything about this guy. I think this reaction by the police is too common. I also think too many of us think it is okay.
When is the last time you got stopped by a police officer for a traffic violation? Or even perhaps, a perceived violation? Or maybe because you just looked suspicious? What happens when you try to speak and the officer already has his mind made up about you or your actions? You're told to shut up and be quiet.
Several times since the imaginary War on Terror began, anytime that a protestor, even silent ones with nothing more than a sign or t-shirt, has shown up a Bush administration speech or function they have been escorted out and arrested. This has NEVER happened before in the history of our country. Yes, there were protestors arrested during the Viet Nam era, but those occurred during riots, sometimes involving trespassing, assaults, White House security and National Guard foul ups. This administration has boogie man tactics such as the Patriot Act, Terror Alerts, torture legislation, name calling and labeling anyone who "isn't with them is against them" or maybe we're just unpatriotic and don't get it.
So, President Alphabet speaks at Columbia University and the new hybrid neo-cons want to take Lee Bolinger, the President of the university out to have him drawn and quartered. Never recognizing for one moment in their thick heads that this is an important moment in history. What if we'd had a similar exchange with Hitler prior to WWII? Stalin? It has been said that when Khrushchev visited America in 1959, when Eisenhower was president, that he was pleased with his trip and enjoyed the trip very much. His views of Americans changed. It was supposed to be one of the favorite trips of his life. Many think that it may be what kept us in a "Cold War". Most certainly, it didn't hurt us.
I think that President Alphabet's career in politics will end soon. His country seems unhappy with him. He is dillusional, as evidenced by his both of his appearances. What I truly wish is that every leader of all of countries would come to speak not only at the United Nations, but at other Universities. We need to hear from these men. We owe it to ourselves, our youth and the other nations who look to us for leadership. We need these forums to hear what they have to say, even when it is garbage. That is the most important time to hear them, when it is garbage, so that everyone can hear it.
This is the "Land of Liberty". Let all of the world leaders come here to speak. Please don't forget that we need to speak as well. "DON'T TAZ ME, BRO!"

Day 6 9/16/07
A reply to an e-mail: I had planned to make my next post to discuss the trade situation with China. However, a very compelling e-mail came to me yesterday that I cannot / will not post here because of the strong language in it.
To CBA, you have questioned my patriotism and character because of my views and the content of my blog. I do agree with you that it is "my country, right or wrong" and that Dubya is "our President, right or wrong". I do not accept your idea that to question our President is unpatriotic. It is not "unpatriotic to be against war". Mister CBA, the first thing you'll notice is that I've corrected all of your spelling errors. You have more right than I do to be angry with this country. This country has failed to educate you well enough to be able to communicate your thoughts and arguments with your writing skills. You're not even intellectually far enough along to use spell check. This current President is more willing to kill our men in Iraq than he is to properly educate our children here at home.
Your assumption that I am a Democrat is incorrect. The Democrats just happen to be the party that can pull us back into some balance here. That idea is probably way over your head, but give it a try. Being anti-war does not make me a p___y, as you said, and spelled incorrectly. This is the year 2007, people have been at war since we've been on earth. It's about time we found a better way. Obviously, creating more weapons gets us nowhere near world peace. I am not a pro gun control freak as you alledge, making another wild assumption. I do not own a gun and do not need one, but I would never support a law that says law abiding citizens cannot own one. I would like for there to a way to get the guns out of the hands of dangerous people, but how do you get there?
I am not pro abortion as you also assume. I do believe that the country and the world face a popluation problem. Most of this population growth is in the legions of the poor. Something must be done about that. Until there is 100% adoption of all the world's orphans and something is done to level the population growth, then I think abortion needs to stay. I do think it is a tragic solution to what should be an easy enough problem to fix.
You say that I would have the next President providing "socialized medicine". Is that what it's called when a group of Americans think that our tax dollars would be better used if spent on the health of our citizens rather than blowing up countries? How about if our money went to take care of us for a change? Too much for you?
If you don't think Dubya is really a criminal, then do yourself a favor, don't just have an opinion, have an informed opinion, go read a book or a newspaper.
Finally, Mister CBA, I still welcome you to come by and read my opinions and I still welcome your opinions. Don't put words in my mouth and keep the foul language out of your comments. Try spell check sometime just to make it a little easier for me to read what you're trying to say.
Thanks for coming by, no more "W's".

Day 2 - 9/06/07
Here I am, made it back for a second entry. I have signed up with Google to have them put ads on this site. So, if you see one, click on it and I get paid! That's interesting, never even considered that until that option showed up.
I got some feedback from The Texas Democrats Website that Edwards is winning by a fairly large margin in internet polling. Of the 6565 votes tallied so far, Edwards has 2463 votes (37.52%), Clinton 1376 (20.96%), Obama (18%), Kucinich 919 (14%), Richardson 361 (5.5%), Biden 166 (2.53%), Dodd 38 (.58%). Voting ends 11:59 PM Friday 9/07/07. If you don't know already, I'm a big Edwards fan. I was hoping that Biden would do better because I'd like to see an Edwards / Biden ticket.
I am a bit of a "list freak" and I've added some of my favorites to this page. It should be noted that I don't put any of the lists of favorites in any order. That is just too hard to do. While I enjoy making the lists, the mental gymnastics of chosing an order to put the names in or who is better at that level would make me have a breakdown. I hope that you'll critique mine and share your own. Asking me "what the hell are you thinking?", is a question I love to answer.
I watched most of The Republican "Debate" last night on Fox. I have to say that it is fun to watch Rudy twitch when Ron Paul is speaking. I had a better opinion of Tom Tancredo before these "shows" started. He is becoming more "Bush - like" every time I see him try to speak. He really has a hard time getting his thoughts to form words. How can we take these guys seriously when they all preach from a similar pulpit? Cut taxes, cut taxes, more war in Iraq, Iran needs an ass - whuppin', the terrorists are coming to get us, cut taxes, we love China, cut taxes, no health care, cut social security, cut taxes, more war in Iraq...These guys are abismal at their best. If this country is stupid enough to elect another Republican president then we deserve whatever next evil, bad crap happens to us.
I'm playing disc golf this weekend with good friends on Saturday and with my oldest son, Josh, on Sunday. I started playing a few months ago and found out that I really like it. It's good exercise and more challenging than you'd imagine. It isn't impossible to become good enough to enjoy fairly quick though. Playing with some guys who know how really helps. As I travel to other towns on business, I've been trying other courses. Lufkin, Longview, Tyler and Texarkana are ones that I've tried so far.
That's all for now. Thanks for dropping in. No More "W's".

Day 5 9/14/07
Opening thought here: It appears that Iran may have adopted the US's idea of "It's better to fight them over there than it is here at home". I say that because of increasing evidence that Iran is participating in the Iraq War, albeit in as nearly a cowardly fashion as can be imagined. I am truly beginning to believe that Arabic men are incapable of fighting conventionally. They all seem to know how to operate a grenade launcher, set up road side bombs, make car and truck bombs and obviously have nearly perfected suicide bombings. I don't know if I should pity such obvious cowardice, or admire the brilliance of keeping it so simple. It is obvious that I detest this war and the American administration responsible for it. What I really hate is how many people have died in the name of Islam. Islam has become nothing more than an excuse for mass murderers to kill for a cause. Don't think for a moment that I forget that Christianity is just as bad. Christianity does happen to have a government working for it this time. Of course we had to dismantle a government in Iraq because Dubya and God talked it over and God told Dubya to blow the heathens away. I still remember when Dubya screwed up and said on "teevee" that we were fighting a crusade. How many others remember that?
Thanks to JRA for the kind approval of this blog. He points out that it ain't so obvious how to comment. If you'd like to comment then just click on "View My Complete Profile" on the left of the page. There is a spot to e-mail. I must see the comment before posting it to the blog site to make sure you're not cursing me out or anything like that. JRA also notes that I am an Abby Hoffman living in Garland. Honestly, that is a mixed compliment. I did admire Abby, but he was a little out there in his personal life.
Finally got caught up on all of Bush's speech. Turns out all that I missed was his new lies. If you haven't seen details of all of the lies that his speech writers, Cheney and he came up with then you may want to start checking newspaper or cable news story accounts of the speech. I just don't want to spend the time here. The whopper about our allies invloved is really unbelievable. I can't even imagine why they thought they could put that in a speech and get away with it. Oops, what am I thinking, this the guy who sold us the Iraq War to begin with. If you were one of the believers in the beginning, then there is a good chance that you still may be. Without trying to sound like the smartest guy in room, I never bought it. When Dubya was elected the first time I knew better than to vote for that pecker head. After 9-11 I was behind him 100% along with the rest of the world. Then he starts bombing Afghanistan to kill bin Laden. Hey, I wanted bin Laden's ass dead, also. Bombing a bunch of guys in caves, that you have no idea which cave they're in, is like throwing baseballs at bugs across your yard when you don't know where they're hiding. Get some of our bad dudes on the ground and get in there and kick their asses. That's when I knew that this idiot and his posse didn't have a clue what to do next. Next thing you know, it's The Taliban that we're focused on there. Soon after that is when he hatches the Iraq diversion to prove to all of us that he and his cohorts really didn't know what to do next. A bad thing happened though, too many people got on board and he was able to sell it to the American people. The voices shouting that Iraq was involved with 9-11 and had WMDs were much louder than the voices that were saying whoa, can't be. In that few months America lost it's honor and dignity. We allowed a very stupid bunch of people to ruin everything we stood for. I think the polls still show that Dubya has about 30 - 35% job approval. How can that be? Why hasn't this man and his administration been sent packing for prison? There is something wrong with people when they can accept this type of leadership. The American people are not the criminals. They just wanted someone to lead in a time of crises. Too many trusted and did not question this pack of wolves. Some Republicans are beginning to turn on this insane clown posse. What is troubling is how long it has taken. How much more time do we have to give this guy to kill more people, do more damage and spend more of our tax dollars?
China's place in my ulcer in the next post. Thanks for coming by, no more "W's".

Day 4 9/13/07
Well, I'd hoped to have a moment to watch my favorite whipping post, Dubya, tonight on "teevee" trying to fire all of us 'Mericans up to support his continued war effort. The Grandkids were over and Dubya just doesn't merit a moment of my attention when those two are around. However, I have been keeping up with General Petreaus' appearances this week with the Congress and the Senate. While not wanting to take a swat a man who obviously has served his country honorably for a long time, as evidenced by all the fruit salad on his chest, I do have doubts that his testimony is truly genuine and is in the best interest of our country. But that's just me, and I don't like Dubya, and I sure don't like this damn war. I want to scream whenever I hear some moron talk about our honor and not leaving before the job is done. Where the hell was our honor when so many stood by and watched as Dubya decided it was righteous to blow away Iraqis in the cause of 9-11? Amazing how many idiots still beleive in that lie, even after the original idiot admitted that there was no connection.
How about some obscure music trivia? While I'd really like to discuss one of my favorite topics (as mentioned previously), Eric Burdon and The Animals, The Jimi Hendrix Experience, The Police and how their histories are mingled, I'm going to talk about a band that is on my album list, Captain Beyond, because of an e-mail I received. Captain Beyond was formed in 1971. Made up of former members of Deep Purple, Iron Butterfly and Johnny Winter's band. Rod Evans, the original singer for Deep Purple handled vocals. Bobby Caldwell on drums, originaly played with Johnny Winter. Evans and Caldwell wrote the lyrics for the first album and they must be read to be truly understood and even then you'll be scratching your head. Lee Dorman on bass and Larry "Rhino" sometimes "Ryno" Rhinehardt on guitar were both from Iron Butterfly. Captain Beyond was truly a "Super Group", but never played to large audiences or had great record deals or record sales. Their first album is titled "Captain Beyond" and was released 1972 on Capricorn Records, the same label that had The Allman Brothers Band and Marshall Tucker and other great southern rock bands of that time. Capricorn never really knew what to do with these guys and realized they'd made a marketing mistake. In the meantime, C B was getting a bit of a cult following and had minor successes in clubs and small halls. They never made enough money from records or live dates to sustain the band. In 1973 they released another album, but Bobby Caldwell had left to join Armegeddon with Keith Relf of The Yardbirds. The new band had a keyboard player who's name you should recognize, Reese Wynans, who'd later wind up playing in Stevie Ray Vaughan's Band, Double Trouble. The band also now had Guille Garcia on percussion and Marty Rodriguez on drums. One track featured Paul Hornsby who is famous for his time with The Marshall Tucker Band, Grinderswtch, The Dickey Betts Band, Wet Willie, Bonnie Bramlett and Willie Nelson. This album was titled "Sufficiently Breathless" and the title track did receive some radio air play. The band did tour some to support this album initially, but Capricorn lost interest and the money ran out. The band resurected in 1977 with the release of Dawn Explosion and nearly all of the original line up. Only Rod Evans did not return and his replacement was a very able Willie Daffern. The newer material was not as good as the first album and selected tracks from the second album and this was cause for inner conflict. The band was again mismanaged and underfinanced. In spite of excited sold crowds at the smallish venues that they did play, C B was unable to continue for long. In late 1998 the band was attempting another resurection with Bobby Caldwell and Rhino playing the central revival roles. In 1999 "A Tribute To Captain Beyond Thousand Days Of Yesterday" was released by Record Heaven. It is a complete playing of the first album by European Bands in tribute to the band that they describe as a major influence. It's a pretty good cd and I recommend it. Caldwell and Rhino continued to write and play and try to get ready to play again. They played several live shows in the Florida area and some shows in Europe. In 2000 they released a 4 track demo of songs, promising to do an album in the future. Besides Rhino and Caldwell, the demo also has Jimi Interval on vocals, Dan Frye on keyboards and Jeff Artabasy on bass. It is a very promising demo and I've been disappointed that there was never a follow up to their promise of an album. In 2001 original bass player, Lee Dorman had a heart transplant and retired from music.
The original C B album is my favorite hard rock album of the 70's. You gotta remember how many great albums came out during the 70's. Now try naming your favorite. I just blew right by Led Zeppelin, Yes, Emerson, Lake and Palmer, Humble Pie and many others to pick this album. My choice deserves your criticism, but you have to listen to Captain Beyond about a hundred and fifty times before you get to try to change my mind.

Day 3 9/09/07
By far the most intelligent thing I've read out of Iraq in a very long time comes from The Grand Ayatollah Mohammad Eshagh al-Fayyadh this week. He is one of the top Shiite (I still have a tendency to want to spell that incorrectly) clerics and he called on Muslims this Friday to keep religion out of politics. What if many of our own leaders could do that? He also has urged Iraqi officials to unite to "rescue the nation from the catastropic situation".
The Patraeus Report is coming out. You can add me to the list of skeptics who already doubt it's validity or value. I'm not sure that it should have the General's name on it since it will be filtered and spun through the White House before being released. I am sure that it will continue to make a case to try to save Republican Party face and honor until the end of the Bush / Cheney term. Whoever takes over for these criminals will be painted as the pansy who chickened out and made us look bad in front of the world. Yeah, right. In private, Republicans will be as relieved as any Democrat that the nightmare of Bush's term and then The War In Iraq end. The only ones who won't like it will be the contractors who eventually will have to come home, however long that takes. Even talk show hosts will love it because it'll give them something to talk about for a long time, cowardly Democrats. Trust me, some day this war ends. If there is any justice, hearings will begin.
I had some feedback about the music lists that I did. I was surprised how hip some of you are. A good friend wrote to request some obscure music topics because he knows that I know a few fun music trivia facts. While I prefer British music trivia centering around some of the guys around The Animals and Jimi Hendrix' Experience (yes, British. Not Jimi, the band.), I thought that I'd throw this one out there. Many of you know who The Runaways are, the chick band from the late 70's with Joan Jett. In 1983, Lita Ford, singer and guitar player from that same band released an album called "Out For Blood". The producer and bass player on that record was Neal Merryweather. In the 70's, he had his own band, Neal Merryweather and The Space Rangers. They were a pretty good band. They played hard pychedelic rock and did a few cover tunes. If you get a chance, check them out. They're available on a few websites to download.
Some people didn't know who Todd Park Mohr was. He is the singer, songwriter, guitarist for Big Head Todd and The Monsters. You may remember songs like Bittersweet, Resignation Superman, Broken Hearted Savior, Sister Sweetly or It's Alright. If you ever get a chance to catch these guys live, do it. If you don't own the cd Sister Sweetly, buy it. It's a very romantic and sexy cd. It gets me in the mood.
I'll continue to make a recommendation or two on music in the future, however you should listen to more music anyway. Turn off the television and turn on the stereo. I have put a lot of time into my music collection and I'm probably obsessive. I know this though, I've always got something interesting to pull out and slap on the old cd player. I can have a stranger over and let them pick something out. They'll find something they like. It's true about music soothing the savage beast. Try it, you'll like it. No one ever had a heart attack from listening to music they enjoyed.
Thanks for dropping by. No more "W's".

Day 1 - 9/05/07
First day, night actually, to ever actually do my own blog. This will be short because it is late. My main focus will be to express a few opinions about politics, war, terrorism, music, life, family, disc golf, friends, etc. I have no idea if or with who I'll share this blog with. If you're reading it and you aren't me, then somehow I shared it with you. I either know you and lamely sent you a link or you have stumbled into my blog accidently. Either way, I hope the typing errors are few enough that you can get through it, let alone is it interesting enough?
Most people that know me even slightly know that I believe George W. Bush and his administration are worthy of least being paraded in front of a hearing process and being publicly humiliated by having to explain their every decision and subsequent screw up. An impeachment process should be in order, but I realize that it probably will never happen. I'm not for impeachment because it's Bush and Cheney (the Dark Lord). I'm for impeachment because of the next president and vice president. What will their interpretation of powers be if what these two guys have done is allowed to go completely unchallenged. I'll worry much less about that if John Edwards is elected. John Edwards is the guy I support. I have to vote for the guy that I think has the best heart, the best intent for our country. Last time that was Kerry. Before that, it was Gore. Believe it or not, I voted for Reagan. Not the first time, but the second time. I coudn't vote for George H.W. Bush. When Bill Clinton came along, it was an easy choice for me. I went with Bill both times.
Our family had a bad day today. Had something happen to us in a court room that was unfair. After waiting for more than a year for our day in court, the court house shut down early for an evacuation drill. Our case got postponed. I'll not say what it was about for now. I will say that we still had to pay for the lawyer and his aide to be there. We've had to pay a lot of money so far and this was more that we shouldn't have had to spend for a postponement. It was unkind and unfair.
That will do for now. I won't run out of things to write about. I'm hoping to address my favorite subject, music, tomorrow. Thanks for dropping in, No More "W's",
